Trends in web design: what kind of wedding would it be without a website?

The people of Your Inspiration Web are always ready and open for confrontations and for debates, today I want to take the advantage of this to share with you another opinion article. I’m curious to hear your opinion and know the point of view of web designers on a trend that’s gaining ground in this last period.
I’m talking about the wedding sites ,that the future wed couple put online once they fixed the wedding date and that generally gathers beside romantic images of the two sweethearts tells also their love story: how they met, where, why…
A very romantic trend that at the moment is circumscribed only to the American couples and become an “accessory service” fundamental like the classical (and everlasting) photo service.
Which is the intrinsic utility of an “engagement” website”?
A website, you know, offers the possibility of sharing with others in a fast way experiences and knowledge. Even for these sites the first advantage is without doubt, the easiness of sharing with persons that live far away (relatives, friends) information on the place and on the date of the wedding, the stores where the wedding list is held and all those information that otherwise need to be told by phone or individually: communicating with the guests and with everyone that for one reason or another, are interested to the event, have never been so simple and so fast, practically instantaneous.
Obviously that is not all. Create a website to tell one’s love story is becoming a collective phenomenon, a trend in brief. If in the beginning there were used standard templates with a simple and linear aesthetic , now the recent “pink” sites are much more charming and made to measure, and not to mention the many web designers are starting to advertise the service and proposing theirselves not only to the new couple but also to the wedding planning agencies.
An original and creative idea or… bye, bye privacy?
The only risk you run with the personal sites is to lose definitively the contact with what is good to share with others and what instead is part of the individual’s private sphere and like that should be somehow protected. In the last months I visited a blog dedicated to newborn, with entire photo reportage of the first days of life, sites dedicated to one’s domestic pet, even virtual diaries of pregnancies with scannerized ultrasounds. Putting at the mercy of everyone your children or your affective relationship isn’t it an opening a bit too drastic and total towards a world that at the end we don’t know and doesn’t know us?
Your opinion, as a person and as a web designer
What is your opinion on the argument? Do you find that the “couple” website is a romantic and non conventional idea or this trend somehow can limit the privacy of the all concerned?
As a web designer, do you think that this trend can also gain ground in Italy and can it, in a medium /long period, represent a concrete business? Should we offer and promote a service dedicated to this kind of website?

Hi Sarah. Very nice and inovative topic.
I love the idea of wedding websites.
We made a small website before our own wedding. Before the wedding we posted guestlist with a short description of the couples and there relationship to us.
The program of the day ect.
Afterwoods we posted pictures and video from the cermony.

We do occasionally return to the website to fall back on our lovely wedding.
Regarding privacy I only consider nudety and harsh language before making something public, but I quess its all a matter of privacy religion
different but inspiring article. thanks

Unique wedding web design create beautiful feedback. Life really is beautiful!
Have you ever considered about adding a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is valuable and all. Nevertheless think of if you added some great images or video clips to give your posts more, “pop”! Your content is excellent but with pics and clips, this blog could definitely be one of the very best in its niche. Great blog!
